Holding the Line in Asia

For much of the Cold War, Asia was a hot spot for the Navy. Even as it fought the wars in Korea and Vietnam, the Navy worked to discourage the Communist nations from threatening Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Behind the shield provided by U.S. naval power, democratic government and free market economy gained a foothold throughout the region.
